FSS grant awarded to NBHA

We are so grateful for the 2023 Family Self Sufficiency Grant it’s 1 of 4 major Grants given to NBHA by HUD within the last 4 months.
The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS) is a program funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to help Section 8 and Federal Public Housing Families achieve social and economic self-sufficiency. The NBHA is now establishing its Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program in 2022.
The FSS Program Coordinating Committee (PCC) was formed in accordance with HUD guidelines in an effort to coordinate services with public and private agencies. The goal of the FSS Action Plan is to reflect services and outline procedures of the FSS program. The FSS program provides critical tools that can be used by communities to help families develop new skills that will lead to economic self-sufficiency. As a result of their participation in the FSS program, many families will achieve stable employment.
The NBHA, in concert with community resources, has established a plan that addresses both the needs of families and our ability to create empowerment opportunities that will effectively eradicate dependence on public assistance. The purpose of the plan is to enable financial and social self-responsibility through the mediums of counseling, community support, education, job training and job search techniques, while at the same time encouraging individual choice in the setting and attainment of goals.
Program Objectives
NBHA’s FSS program seeks to help families make progress toward economic security by supporting the family’s efforts to:
Increase their earned income
