NBHA Receives High Marks from Dept. of Housing and Urban Development

NORTH BERGEN, N.J. — The North Bergen Housing Authority received a High Performer Notification on the Public Housing Assessment System (PHAS) Score Report for the fiscal year from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

NBHA received a 37 out of a possible 40 in Physical; a 23 out of a possible 25 in Financial; a 24 out of a possible 25 in Management and 10 out of a possible 10 in Capital Fund. In total, they scored 94 out of a possible 100.

The scores are derived from inspections completed by HUD on housing properties. Approximately 25 units occupied by tenants are chosen at random for further inspection. Inspectors and inspection protocols are changed from year to year but NBHA has remained a constant recipient of the High Performer status.

“It isn’t easy to be classified as a High Performer and most housing authorities are not,” said NBHA Director of Operations Ryan Leggio. “I don’t believe there’s been a time in the 20 years that I’ve been here that NBHA did not score above 90. We take great pride in this status and work hard to maintain it.”

“This is a major accomplishment and to come on the heels of NBHA achieving the most competitive federal grant last month, we couldn’t be more proud,” said NBHA Executive Director Gerald Sanzari.

“I would like to congratulate the North Bergen Housing Authority on this achievement,” said North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco. “They have been doing fine things for the residents of this community for many years and I have no doubt they will continue to do so for many years to come.”
